Overview: As Senior UX Designer for the Texas Education Agency’s Texas Gateway redesign, I led UX strategy and design work focused on making the platform easier for Texas educators to navigate, understand, and use. Texas Gateway provides educators with access to TEKS-aligned classroom resources and professional development, creating a complex digital environment with multiple content types, subjects, grade levels, and pathways to information. My work focused on understanding how educators use the platform and translating those insights into a clearer, more intuitive experience.

The Challenge: With a large volume of educational content and multiple ways for users to discover resources, the existing experience presented challenges around navigation, content organization, wayfinding, and identifying the most useful pathways for different educator needs. The redesign needed to simplify that complexity without sacrificing access to the depth of resources available across the platform.

User Research & UX Strategy: I conducted user research to better understand educator needs, behaviors, goals, and pain points, then developed user journeys to map how key audiences interact with the Gateway. I also completed a comprehensive UX audit of the existing site, identifying usability issues and opportunities to improve content discovery, navigation, hierarchy, and the overall user experience. Those findings became the foundation for UX recommendations and redesign priorities.

Information Architecture & Experience Design: Building on the research, I developed recommendations for the site’s structure and navigation and created information architecture and UX designs for key pages and user pathways. My work included redesigning the homepage, defining improved site structure and navigation, and developing key page experiences designed to help educators more quickly understand what is available, find relevant resources, and move confidently through the platform.
