TEA: STAAR Test Redesign & Rebranding

Project Overview

Client: Texas Education Agency (TEA)

Objective:  The Texas Education Agency was embarking in a huge undertaking – launching a newly designed STAAR Report Card that greatly simplified the way parents viewed their children’s standardized test results. The agency wanted to take this even further by giving parents a place online where they could learn more about the STAAR test and dive deeply into their child’s results. At the time, the TEA only had an administrative site for educators, but knew they needed to better serve their parent audience.

Project Goals

  • New Website: The TEA needed to create a user-friendly site where parents login to see their child’s test results that complemented the ease and simplicity of their newly designed STAAR Report Card.
  • Content Creation: Create all new content including user-friendly videos to demonstrate the layout and information included on the STAAR Report card
  • Multiple Languages: Key tutorial information and Report Card information available to users in 10 languages
  • Information Architecture: Develop a clear and intuitive information architecture to improve content findability and site structure.
  • Accessibility: Ensure the website meets accessibility standards to serve all users, including those with disabilities.

Challenges

  • Develop, create, design, and program in less than 2 months
  • See evidence that users love it. The goal was to gain support and understanding for both the test and the TEA

Solutions & Implementation

  • New Content and Video Creation: all new content was created for this website in the development timeperiod
  • Content Organization: Reorganized and streamlined the content into clear, intuitive categories based on user priorities and feedback.
  • UX Design: Developed a modern, user-centered design that reflects TEA’s values, enhances accessibility, and simplifies navigation.
  • Multiple Language Translation: all key content needed to be translated into 10 languages
  • Interactive Tutorial: An interactive walk-through of the sections of the report card was created as a module for the website, and translated into 10 languages.
